Founded in 1690 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Towle is one of the country's oldest silversmiths. Their patterns are well-documented and consistently weighed — straightforward to evaluate.

Wallace Silversmiths of Wallingford, Connecticut produced enormously popular flatware patterns through the 20th century. Many sets we see locally are Wallace.
